Program Description

Kieser University provides their students with an Associate of Science degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant to allow them to successfully maintain careers as occupational therapy assistants under direct supervision of a licensed occupational therapist.

Occupational therapy is the both an art and a science, which when combined together, the therapist can aid the patient into performing regular activities again. Students gain an understanding in the therapeutic use of self-care, work and play/leisure activities to maximize independent function, enhance development, prevent disability and maintain health. To allow for the patient to gain independence and perform desired tasks, it may be necessary to alter their tasks or surroundings.

Program objectives

Kieser University strives to provide an environment in which students demonstrate ethical behaviors, critical thinking skills and commitment to lifelong learning to become a successful healthcare professional. The students learn and practice their newly developed clinical skills in treatment techniques, methodology and rationale for implementation, including clinical documentation and reasoning skills as an entry-level professional, and also express an academic foundation that makes it obvious that the occupational therapy's distinctive focus on daily living activities and interventions that encourage the clients' participation within a social/cultural context.

Prerequisite for Major Courses

  • Provide a record proving good health signed by student
  • Provide a background check and drug screening when applicable
  • Successfully complete of general education courses with a grade of "C" or higher for each course
  • Total grade average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

Program Outline

Associate of Science degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant is a total of 89.0 credit hours. Program requirements are as follows:

Individual courses must be taken and passed with a grade of a "C" or higher in order as listed since each is a prerequisite to the next.

An Associate of Science Degree is recognized as being a terminal degree and is therefore not eligible for transfer.
